Simwell was awarded this licence in the UK 29th Round, with 100% equity. Simwell has mapped two large Carboniferous closures (Scremerston and Fell Sandstones) and a shallower fractured/reefal Zechstein Z3 carbonate play fairway. Each of the two Carboniferous Leads has the potential to hold in excess of 500bcf of recoverable gas and is less than 50kms northwest of the producing Breagh gas field.

In February 2019 Shell farmed into the adjoining blocks 41/5 and 41/10. They plan to acquire new broadband 3D seismic over the Zechstein reef play, which extends into the eastern part of Simwell’s blocks. This survey was started on the 1st of August 2019 and arrangements were made so it including some 200 sq km coverage over Simwell's licence

In April 2020 a farm out to Shell was completed with Simwell retaining a 30% interest in the licence. The fully processed 3D seismic acquired by Shell was delivered in August 2020.  Subsequent interpretation has revealed an extension of the Fairhaven discovery (on adjacent block 41/5-1) into P2332, with an estimated P50 resource of 85 BCF on licence.  A further prospective resource of 40 BCF had been mapped just to the north of this extension on a separate structure. Shell, the new operator of P2332 is now in the process of acquiring new, additional 3D, covering most of the rest of the licence, shot by ION geophysical company this summer. This new data, together with the results of the key Pensacola well in adjacent block 41/5-42/1 (planned for Q2-22) will be interpreted with a view to a drilling decision for 2023.
